To my husband, daughter, father, brother...and biggest supporter, my mother! I love each of you.
Chapter One
“Sitting out in this heat, you may melt.” I look up and see a dark-skinned guy with a fresh cut and bulging biceps. He sits down beside me and says, “Maybe I can give you a little shade.”
I smile, trying to be cordial. “Thanks.”
“My name is Isaiah. Are you a freshman?”
With a smile that reaches my earlobes, I reply with excitement, “Nope, I’m a sophomore.” I’m glad I’m not a freshman anymore.
He smiles, and I finally get a glimpse of his teeth. Far from perfect, but somehow his smile is still charming. "And what's your name?"
"Laila." I look down at my watch and stand up. "It was nice meeting you, but I should get to class."
Standing, he takes a few strides and moves in front of me, grabbing the door of the Economics building I want to enter. “Could I get your number?”
Stepping past him to enter the building, I turn to him and say, “Sorry, I have a boyfriend.”
Dropping his head, he sighs. “I should have known. A beautiful girl like you couldn’t have made it a year on campus without a man snatching you up. It was nice meeting you.” He lets the door close behind me.
I like his style, very respectable. Of course, Chris has my heart, but if he didn’t, Isaiah could have had a chance.
I’m a couple of minutes late to class, and I hurry down the corridor to the lecture hall. As I make my way to my seat, I look at the other students and I see Jason sitting in the back row. I quickly look to the front of the class to make sure I’m in the right room. Jason hasn’t been in this class before today. Considering we are a few weeks in, I’m surprised he is here. Well, that’s my professor at the front of the class.
Taking my seat, I open my notebook and try to avoid looking at Jason. I’m already late, and I shouldn’t bring any attention to myself. Jason and I are cordial, but after learning Jason fed personal information to Chris last year I have to watch myself around him.
The professor begins talking about the banking system and who the big players were in the housing fiasco of 2008. Despite my interest in economics I will myself to focus on his words. I have to ace this quiz next week.
From the back of the room I hear a book fall to the floor. Turning around, I see Jason bent over. First day in the class and already causing trouble. The professor clears his throat, commanding everyone’s attention back to the front of the room.
"Who can tell me one of the banks that was part of the bailout?" Before I recall the answer my hand shoots up. When the professor makes eye contact with me I realize my hand is in the air. Dammit, thank God I watched Too Big To Fail. “Laila.”
“Bank of America,” I gently whisper, not completely confident in my answer.
“Right.” The professor continues speaking about the other banks that were part of the bailout. Before our class is dismissed he reminds us of our quiz on Monday.
Exiting to the hall, I stand to the side and wait for Jason. As soon as I see him pass I shout his name, “Jason, wait up.”
“Laila, what’s up girl?” Leaning down to embrace me in a hug he says, “I’m glad we have a class together.”
“Where have you been? You do realize class started about three weeks ago, right?”
“Jokes. I see you haven’t changed much. Actually, I just changed my schedule. This dude seems like he ain’t ‘bout those games though. Quiz on Monday. What the hell?” Smiling broadly he asks, “Think I can get your notes from the past few weeks?”
Rolling my eyes, I look up at him then shrug. “I suppose.” Handing him my notebook, but with a firm grip, I say, “Just make sure I get them back tonight so I can start studying.”
“No doubt. What apartment are y’all in?”
“435. I may not be home but drop by and I’m sure one of the girls will be there.”
Jason nods his head then walks away. Before I’m a few feet away from him my phone rings. Grabbing it out of my purse I see Chris’ name on the screen. What a coincidence. I turn to look for Jason, who is now no longer in sight. "Hey, babe."
“Do you have time to grab lunch?”
“I certainly do, next class is in two hours. What did you have in mind?”
“I was thinking you with a side of French fries.”
My cheeks are burning and I smack my lips. “That’s what you had for dinner last night. You sure you want that again?”
Inhaling deeply Chris responds, “I could have you every day of the week. Breakfast. Lunch. And Dinner.”
As I reminisce about last night, my body tingles, and my legs get weak. “Where are you?”
“Frat house. If you can make it here in the next ten minutes I can have a taste of you and still take you out to fill your belly.”
“See you shortly.” I hang up the phone and contemplate running to my car. The distance to my car is about the same as my walk to the frat house. Either way I’m going to be hot as hell in more ways than one by the time I get there. Looking across campus, I decide to walk to the frat house.
Taking long strides, trying to pull off my speed walk without looking like a crazy lady, I pass by a third of the student body sitting out on the hill.
A few feet away from the frat house I slow down and wipe myself dry. Knocking on the door, I patiently wait, hoping that Chris answers. After two minutes of waiting, I reach for
my phone to call him when the door opens. I look up and shake my head as I see Sean standing there, waiting for me to come through the door.
Without making eye contact Sean says, “He’s in the back.”
As I step through the door, I smile. “Well, hello to you too.” Sean was a Teacher’s Assistant for my class freshman year. We had a fling, but after he played me, we quickly became enemies.
I was hot and bothered before I got here, but now it feels like I've been splashed with a bucket of ice water. I'm not sure I'll ever get used to Chris staying in the frat house. Since his roommates moved after graduation last year, Chris has been living in this mad house. He’ll be here for the next year while he completes his graduate program.
With my eyes focused on the ground to avoid any piles of junk, I hear Chris chuckling.
“You act like you are walking through a land mine.” He reaches out to pull me down the hall.
“It’s just not as clean as your apartment was.” My nipples perk up in response to my thoughts as I caress his arm. His arms are both strong enough to lift me up and gentle enough to hold me all night.
“Yeah, me and my roommates may have been the only clean negroes on this campus.” He shuffles me through his bedroom door, throwing my bags on his bed. “We now have about thirty minutes for me to feast. Can’t make you late to your next class.”
“Right, I should be on time to at least one class today.” Shit. Did I just say that?
Chris' lips are on mine before I can even explain further. Pulling away, I turn and look at the door. "Shouldn't we lock that?"
While rubbing my ass with his right hand, he leans over with his free hand and obliges. "Done. You cool? You seem nervous."
“I’m not nervous. Guess I’m still not used to this place. A little awkward.” Looking deep into his eyes, I say, “Especially knowing Sean is here.”
Looking down, Chris plops on the bed. “Hmm… well, we’ll be quiet. I’d hate for him to break out in a jealous rage when he hears what he could have had.”
Laughing, I lie on top of Chris and start kissing down his neck. He flips me over and almost in one motion has my shorts off and thrown to the floor.
Within seconds I can feel my juices flowing. With Chris lying on top of me I reach down and pull off his gym shorts and his manhood rubs against my leg. Sliding down, I find my spot between his legs and start grinding. Lifting up he continues to kiss me while his fingers slide in between my thighs and explore.
My chest is rising quickly with each motion of his finger. Just as I’m about to climax, he stops and reaches for a condom. Always so responsible, but always at the wrong time.
Eyeing him, I watch as he rolls the condom over his penis. He winks at me and then flips me over on my stomach. Gently easing himself in, I tense with anticipation. Stroking to a slow motion he reaches around and pinches my nipple. I can hardly take the buildup. I throw my ass back causing him to thrust into me quicker and harder.
Burying my face into the mattress I scream as my body trembles around his penis. One last thrust and he collapses beside me. "Girl, you're learning. Must have been watching pornos all summer." He laughs as he reaches down to hand me my shorts. "I promised I'd feed you and get you to class on time, but I'd rather sit here and let you show me some more of your moves."
With my eyes closed, I just murmur, “Mmm hmm.”
With a soft kiss on my forehead, Chris whispers, "Let's go get you some food."
Although I'd rather lie in bed and fall asleep in Chris' arms, I reluctantly stand up and glide my shorts back on. "Can we get a Mexi Chop?"
Chris grabs his keys and wallet and nods his head. “Anything you want.” After pulling on his gym shorts we head out the door.
Thankfully, Sean is nowhere in sight. I’m sure he didn’t want to stick around for any unpleasant interactions. Oh well.
The heat hits me like a brick wall as soon as Chris opens the front door. I cup my hand over my eyes to block the blinding sun. “Seems like the temperature rose about twenty degrees already.”
“Gotta love good ol’ Tallahassee,” Chris says with an exaggerated southern accent.
On our way to Chubby’s, Chris and I shoot the shit about the new freshmen on campus. I hope my girls and I didn’t look as willing as these girls. I guess, with the heat, I can’t half blame them for wearing damn near nothing to class, but some girls just take it too far.
“Does campus feel different now that you are a sophomore?” Chris looks at me with a goofy smile.
“Not really. Although I didn’t like the dorms, it was convenient being able to roll out of bed and walk to class. You should have told me finding a parking spot on campus is like winning the lottery.”
"Good analogy. At least you planned your classes out so that you aren't going back and forth." With a devilish look he continues, "Even during your breaks, you can come down to the frat house and entertain me."
“I thought, being a grad student, you’d be more occupied.”
The line at Chubby's is short, and as we pull up to the window Chris orders us both a Mexi Chop. Then he turns to me with loving eyes and says, "I told you, I will always have time for you.”
My heart gushes, and I lean over to peck him on his lips. I can only hope that his interest doesn’t wear off now that I’m a sophomore. His ex-girlfriend, Courtney, warned me that we wouldn’t last past freshman year. But then again, she’s his ex-girlfriend.
Chapter Two
My door opens, and I look up from my desk. Jennifer and Monica walk through with blankets wrapped around their shoulders holding bags of chips. "Study break!" Monica gushes.
Jennifer plops down on my bed, ready to indulge in the bag of chips. Before she pulls her hand from the bag I snatch it and say, “Not in my bed. Let’s go into the living room.”
Jennifer rolls her eyes and hops off my bed, pushing past me towards the living room. Monica laughs and follows her. "Anybody see Nicole today?"
"I haven't seen her in a couple of days. She sent me a text yesterday and said she was staying with some new guy she met." The look of disgust on Jennifer's face is undeniable.
“Jennifer, fix your face. You know how Nicole is, why are you even upset?” Half smiling I look at Monica for confirmation.
“Laila is right, Jennifer. Our girl walks on the wild side. Just as long as she is safe I couldn’t care less what she does.” Monica sits up on the couch. “Now pass me that bag of chips.”
Taking a handful of chips before giving the bag to Monica, Jennifer says, "I just hate that she always says she's trying to change, but in the same breath she is asking about the next dude."
“Enough about the missing roommate. I’m hoping I can snag a guy soon. I could use some testosterone in my life after being in this apartment with you ladies,” Monica says.
“It’s only been a month.” Jennifer shakes her head. “This year is going to be long if you are already tired of us.”
“Damn, Jennifer. Stand up and pull that stick out your ass.” Monica rolls her eyes. “I didn’t say I was tired of y’all. Just need some dick in my life.”
I burst out laughing. “Girl, you are a mess. Maybe we should take a road trip soon. After all, we do have cars now. Y’all want to go to the Atlanta Classic?”
Monica hops off the couch and dances in a circle. “Heck yeah. I’m down.”
"You can hardly be in an apartment with us. You want to be cramped in a car on a four-hour road trip?" In typical Jennifer fashion, she kills the vibe with a negative comment. This semester she has been extra bitchy.
Monica and I both groan. With a grave look on my face I lean over to Jennifer and whisper, "Maybe you need some…” Jennifer’s eyes widen and her mouth drops. Dammit, I forgot. How could I forget? “Jennifer, I’m sorry.”
"It's cool. No need to tiptoe around my situation. After all, maybe I am uptight. I'm down for the classic."
Just as we finish flushing out details, the front door opens. Nicole frolics into the l
iving room. "Am I missing the campfire? What are you ladies up to?" Nicole throws her overnight bag to the floor and slides into the seat beside Jennifer. Fortunately, our cozy living room has at least enough seats for all four of us, but five would make the room feel like a cardboard box.
Monica perks up. “We just planned our road trip to the Classic.”
“Road trip? I don’t even need details. I’m all in.”
The hotel lobby is full of students and alumni, most of them from our school, Lee University, and some from North Carolina A&T. As Nicole eyes a medium build, dark-skinned guy with A&T colors she turns to me and says, “Think Josh will be here?”
As if the thought never crossed my mind, I hunch my shoulders and scrunch my brows. “I didn’t even think about Josh. I will call Tanya later and ask her if she knows.”
“Well, there are enough nice-looking guys here. Would have been nice to have someone familiar to flirt with.”
Jennifer flashes the room card and says, “Let’s go!”
Before we can get to our room we are approached by a group of guys, and Monica is smiling like a fat kid in a candy store. Her ideal man is standing before her with broad shoulders looking like a linebacker. "You ladies here for the classic?"
“We sure are, how about you?” Monica answers in her softest voice.
"We aren't. We are in town for a conference." His voice is husky and with each word Monica is squirming. Hopefully, he doesn't ask her age.
He passes her a card and as Monica studies it he says, “Call me if you have time for a drink later.”
It takes everything in my power not to burst out laughing. Unfortunately, Jennifer and Nicole don’t have the same will power, they both burst out laughing then quickly walk away. Monica snaps her head around then looks back at her dream man. “I’ll keep that in mind, Collin.”
Tucking his card in her back pocket we turn to catch up with Jennifer and Nicole. “Didn’t take long for you to find your linebacker.”
